Mesh Flat In New Colors

Hanna Kovanen

Having said what I just said this is for my nurse friend. I have a pair of these mesh flats from The Row (a brand which has never felt more contemporary) in pale pink. Sorry not sorry they feel ridiculously comfortable on - I wore them a lot in Australia. This sock shoes now comes in new season’s colors which look really look! I love quirky twist they add to any outfit.

Augustinus Bader

I am a self-proclaimed beauty junkie, and I love the feel of well-hydrated skin. I just stocked up on some of my essentials, but I keep on hearing many good things about Augustinus Baded. It is a brand that was launched only about a year ago, but it comes with a cult following. I am pretty keen on trying out either one of the their creams; maybe the milder one called The Cream. Any opinions as the price point is pretty steep?

Ana Khouri

The most talented jeweler, Ana Khouri, created this one-of-a-kind, blue sapphire Mirian ring to raise funds for Doctors Without Borders to ensure healthcare workers have the critical supplies. The blue sapphire was chosen for blue is associated with hope, peace and protection in many cultures. What a beautiful thing to do in the prevailing climate! I just wanted to give a shoutout to her beautiful work and brand that has been my favorite since its inception. The Mirian ring is one of Ana’s classic design and you can find it here.

Spring Mood

Hanna Kovanen

One of the positive outcomes of the current situation is the time we have to feel inspired. I am an escapist by nature, so finding ways to get distracted comes naturally to me. Of course, it is vital to accept the limited nature of life at present, but I still believe a bit of distraction never hurt anyone.

I just made this mood board, as I have been loving Pernille’s low-key looks lately. I am trying to get my hands on the New Balance 860v2 sneakers, which seem to be impossible to find. Any clues?

Eyes On Aviators

Hanna Kovanen

I lost my Cèline Edge sunglasses (read my favorite sunglasses) last summer. I tend to really treasure whatever I invest in so that was a bummer! As it is almost impossible to get them now, I have thought about getting these new aviators by Bottega.

Bottega SS20 Campaign

Hanna Kovanen

Just looking at these images feels bizarre given that I was still living la dolce vita under the Australian sun less than a week ago. Everything has changed so quickly…

Daniel Lee has a luxe approach to Bottege Veneta's SS20 campaign which has been photographed by Tyrone Lebon. The styling remains quite relaxed which creates an interesting contrast. Maybe we still get enjoy a bit of the European summer this year, preferably in Bottega of course!

Sky Above Clouds

Hanna Kovanen

A sneak peek of Sophie Bille Brahe’s FW20 campaign called Sky Above Clouds. The campaign has been produced by Moon, an agency which has been responsible for many campaigns hailing from Copenhagen of late. I hope these images featuring the otherworldly Julis Hafstrom bring a tiny bit of distraction and inspiration to your day. At least the name of the campaign carries a beautiful message.

The collection is available for pre-order at Moda Operandi.

Stay Home Mood

Hanna Kovanen

I trust you understand the vitality of staying at home in the current circumstances. If feeling comfy requires a new sartorial investment, then I would urge you to consider buying from a smaller label, as it is vital to support small businesses . One of them is VEN and they have decided to donate 10% of all their sales to The Trussell Trust and God’s Love We Deliver for the next 30 days. I wish bigger companies would also step up their game. Anyhow, this hoodie is gem and something you want keep forever!

Quarantine Routine

Hanna Kovanen

Amy’s studio in NYC.

Hi all hope you are safe.

I am writing this entry with slightly mixed feelings. It is pretty wild out there! I returned to Finland on Friday which means I will spend the next two weeks in quarantine. I was saddened to leave, but thankfully I did not have to make that decision on my own and, to be honest, I have no clue what I will do next. But I believe coronavirus presents an opportunity to pause and reflect. To think about who you are or want to be. What are your priorities?

I went through a very severe burn-out and panic disorder after university. It paused my life for two and half years and brought me to question everything. It was a very extreme and difficult time period, but I had to learn to accept whatever comes without judgement and let go. Despite the unprecedented nature of the current situation I find myself feeling calm and at home with myself.

While I have been privileged enough to benefit from therapy, my experience of stress is a physical one and I have found relief from low-intensity workouts like pilates and yoga. I also attend restorative yoga classes weekly and meditate using Headspace daily because they activate the parasympathetic nervous system.

Many of my friends will offer online classes whereby high quality teaching is going to be more accessible than ever. I will continue to train with these talented teachers during this period:

  • BAY Helsinki is where I started my pilates journey and their founder and my teacher, Julia, will offer the first mat pilates classes for free! Follow the link in order to sign up. I will join Hanna’s serene yoga classes too.

  • Johanna, the founder of Proud Pilates, used train Hollywood actors with the classical ethos in London. She is responsible for transforming my body. Enough said?

  • Amy Nelms of Flatiron is a pure genius! Amy only offers one-on-one instruction in her NYC studio, but she has recently released a free 15 minute routine on IGTV. I am doing it daily!

  • I had the privilege of training with Kirsten King of Fluidform at her boutique studio while I lived in Sydney. Her online program looks kick ass!

  • I will go back to doing Ballet Beautiful as well. It is a very effective method and easy to do from the comfort of your own home.

  • I usually start my day by doing a quick 15 minute Boho Beautiful yoga. Their online selection ranges from yin yoga to HIIT classes. One of my favorites is their Transform program which I have completed three or four times.

  • Headspace is a beautiful business as they promote meditation free of any spiritual and religious associations. It is all about calming the mind. This link will lead to the selection of free meditations they offer during the crisis.

I would also love to hear your restorative yoga suggestions?

Love Hanna

Late Summer Mood

Hanna Kovanen

I came across this picture of the Totême Biarritz beach towel in white and felt like sharing it, because this image totally captures my current mood. It is late summer vibes here in Tamarama (where I am writing this entry from) and I have been able to go to the beach a fair bit lately. I usually choose to take this towel, as it is still my favorite, and wear a Matteau one-piece. I used to have it in a really nice brown shade too, but I lost it last summer. Talking about lost things, I also lost my old CÉLINE Edge sunglasses a year ago and I really miss them now. These are of course small issues in the current state of things, but I am trying to keep things mostly light here on the journal, as not everything needs to be so dark. Life goes on.

Western Australia

Hanna Kovanen

Somewhere near the Box …

These snapshots were taken in Western Australia in early February. A friend of mine invited me to go over, as she had some time off work and studies. She owns a van so, obviously, the plan was to live off the grid and see what the south of Perth has got to offer. We drove all the way down to Denmark, a small surf town at the bottom of Australia. Along the way the beaches were unreal to say at least! I don’t know where to begin, but Western Australia is a gem: a lot less people, great wine and the scenery is ridiculously good. Also, if you go to a bar, it is likely that everybody goes to the same bar, which means it’s going to be an epic night. An answer to the question of the questions: where to meet people.

The only thing that got me regretting is the fact that we did not have enough time to travel down to Esperance, which should be the most beautiful place. But I am sure I will be back.
