I am currently on my well-deserved summer holiday. No travel plans this time around but I have been re-organising my life, sort of. For instance, I have been going through old photos (and deleting the unnecessary ones). This is just a quick selection of favorite images.

Skincare Edit

Hanna Kovanen

I like Finland, but there are things that are damn hard to get in this country. One of them being my choice of skincare. I mean, sure, there are good brands available, but I decided a couple of years ago to invest in the best products that I know. I am over thirty years of age after all. I tend to get a lot of questions concerning my skincare regimen, which is utterly hilarious given that I quite rarely post any photos of myself on social media, but I suppose I learnt a thing or two while I worked in fashion the industry full-time.

So, my go-to resource is Melanie Grant. I treated myself to a facial at her Sydney studio while in Australia earlier this year. The picture above is from last year, but it contains all of my favourite products apart from the Supernatural face cream by Emma Lewisham. I have been using that cream since January and it is the best. I also love Augustinus Bader, but its price tag is high. But if you have never used Biologique Recherche, now is the time. Their P50 is, like they say, a facial in a bottle, and I have never looked back since.

Biologique Recherche P50, Biologique Recherche Masque Vivant, Biologique Recherche Masque Visolastine +, Augustinus Bader The Cream, Vintner’s Daughter Active Botanical Serum, Vintner’s Active Treatments Essence.

My brother got me a new bottle of P50 and the Serum Iso-Placenta, which is also brilliant, from New York. That is the point - you cannot buy the brand in Finland. P50 is very similar to the Essence by Vintner’s Daughter. Both are damn great, but you can only use one at the time. I always add SPF50, but I tend to change the brand from time to time.

Biologique Recherche P50 & Biologique Recherche Serum Iso-Placenta.

Ash Roberts

I want to introduce you to Ash Roberts. She is a highly talented painter from Los Angeles and I have kept my eyes on her for quite some time now. And, if I remember correctly, Ash has a background in fashion (please Ash, correct me if I am wrong), but her most recent paintings have a strong nature motif. Her works are truly mesmerizing, in my opinion, without trying too hard. Anyhow, she is represented by Placemeant in NYC, in case you got curious.

Moon Juice SuperYou

Hanna Kovanen

Most of my foreign friends would be familiar with Moon Juice, the cult US supplement brand by Amanda Chantal Bacon, but my Finnish friends probably not so much.

I got recommended their SuperYou while in New York before Covid (do you still remember that time?) as I was going through a pretty difficult time in my life. I never bought it back then, but I came across this tiny little bottle in Sydney in early January. In Australia they have got lots of great brands we don’t have here, let me tell you, such as Goops, Emma Lewisham, Drunk Elephant for starters. Well, I bought SuperYou and I have been so happy with it.

I am not that big on taking supplements apart from making sure I get my daily greens and magnesium, instead I try to eat a balanced diet. Or some people might say otherwise, hah. But SuperYou is all natural, responsibly sourced and the active ingredients are Shatavari, Ashwagandha, Amla and Rhodiola. Lets just say that, in my opinion, this stuff takes the edge off. I am kind of worried that my tiny little bottle is almost empty.

New Zealand Part I

Hanna Kovanen

A selection of photos my friend took on our South Island road trip in New Zealand. I spent almost all of January on that beautiful island, mainly camping and hiking. It is rather annoying, but I think I have lost my professional camera. I moved to a new apartment last year and I have not seen the camera ever since. But then again it was kind of nice not to worry about shooting all the time. I could just be there. Feel it and see it. And like my friends say I am a New Zealand regular. I also think Jenni did a good job!

Spring Coats

Hanna Kovanen

I haven’t bought a coat in ages apart from some hiking clothes and one second-hand TOTEME (when did they rebrand their name?) from the early days of the brand in 2021. But I have quietly been crushing over these two classic pieces by Saks Potts. Namely, the Solvej trench and the Amalie leather coat, here worn by the brand’s model and muse Rosemarie Vind.

Check out their FW23 collection here.

Corali

Swan Collier.

It is almost 5pm on a Friday afternoon so lets keep this introduction short.

Corali Jewelry is a Danish brand, founded by architect Caroline Sillesen. Her jewelry obviously has that sculptural edge and the vibe is timeless but also very now. I think the creative direction of the brand has taken a step forward recently. Also my old friend Maria runs their PR. Keep your eyes fixed on what they do! I should also emphasize that all pieces are handmade in Copenhagen. Their Swan Collier and Lago necklace are on my wish list.

Aussie Diary

Hanna Kovanen

Roads in Western Australia.

Hi all! This is a long and very old school photo diary from Australia. I got to spend a bit over two weeks over Christmas and early January over there. I had been longing to go back and it was damn nice to see some good friends and just hang out. I was away for six weeks in total and just got back from New Zealand. But anyway, enjoy!

Outdoor shower.. no words.

I stayed with an old friend near Margaret River and managed to squeeze in an overnight stay at Smiths Beach Resort amid all the wine drinking the region has got to offer. We had seen the resort before Covid while getting some much needed morning coffee and only ever dreamed we could splurge and stay a night there. But somehow we got lucky as we found a good cancellation deal just the night before. It was a bliss.

Facial at Melanie Grant.

And her book.

Yes, so I treated myself to a facial at Melanie Grant. I suppose this is in the category “you know if you know” but, nope, Melanie herself did not do my facial. But Natasha was absolutely brilliant and this was hands down the best facial experience I have ever, ever had. They also gave me a personalized at-home skincare plan which I am now committed to. Lots of great products I had already been using. Could not recommend more!
